William Thai
PRESIDENT
William Thai is a senior at Lindbergh High School, and he is beyond honored and excited to serve as your 2025-2026 Washington DECA State President. Going into his fourth year in DECA, William has had a multitude of experiences regarding competition as he has competed in both individual and team roleplays as well as 10 and 20-page events.
As a two-time SCDC Finalist and an ICDC qualifier, William’s main drive was to guide new members into their DECA journeys. As his chapter’s Vice President of Career Development, William wrote roleplay guides, hosted mock competitions, and did paper reviews to help his chapter succeed in competition. However, when William was waiting in line for his roleplay at an Area Conference, a fellow competitor in the same event asked him, “What is a roleplay?” In the very little time William could explain what a roleplay was, he realized that he wanted to run for state office, so that he could be a guide for not just his chapter, but all of Washington DECA.
William emphasizes that DECA is not just about the medals. It’s about the ability to find one’s voice, and through that, opportunity. Whether it be finding the ability to think critically through roleplays, or discovering one’s creativity through papers, William believes that DECA teaches the confidence and skills needed to bring ideas to life.
Outside of DECA, you can find William still with a blazer on, playing the piano at senior activity centers. Without the blazer, you can find William watching basketball, exploring city streets, going on hikes, and walking his Corgi named Kira! William also loves to rate and critique music albums. After high school, William hopes to study engineering, with the hopes of being able to combine business and technology by creating a start-up in the future.
Lucy Naiman
AREA 1 PRESIDENT
Lucy Naiman is a senior at Sehome High School in Bellingham. She is overjoyed to serve as the 2025-2026 Area 1 President and Vice President of Hospitality! Lucy is a 4th year DECA member and has competed in Hotel and Lodging Management every year. She has competed at all levels, qualifying for SCDC each year, and competing at ICDC her sophomore year. She has also served as Sehome’s Chapter President, a chapter that recently had over 90% of members qualify for SCDC. Being a DECA member has taught Lucy leadership skills, hard work, and the importance of having a strong community. She hopes to use her position to bring members together from all over the state, in order to extend the experience she’s had and her love for DECA to many.
When not wearing the blazer, Lucy can often be found donning a judge’s robe at the courthouse, where she serves as Whatcom county’s youngest judge through the Northwest Youth Services Teen Court program, and as the co-president of Sehome’s Teen Court club. She also dances a variety of styles at her local studio, plays the harp in her school orchestra, and enjoys working as an assistant Hebrew school teacher.
