INITIATIVES

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

DEI MISSION STATEMENT

Washington DECA embraces Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion so that the diverse community we serve today can represent the leaders and changemakers of tomorrow.

WHAT IS DEI?

DEI stands for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. This idea is important as it allows everyone no matter their gender, race, or sexual orientation to feel included and welcome in all spaces!

In Washington DECA, our goal is to establish a fair and equitable playing field for all members across the state. We strive to have our initiatives make DECA a more welcoming space to ensure a safe learning environment that encourages growth.

HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT DEI IN WASHINGTON DECA

  • Ask and do not assume race or gender, asking politely is best.
  • Invite everybody in your conversations and include others in conference activities.
  • Speaking up for members around you and being a role model against any discrimination. If you see anything disrespectful, please report to your advisor or a trusted adult.
  • Advocate for those around you and realize that everyone’s circumstances are different.
  • Help to make resources more accessible for everyone. Don’t be afraid to share your competition experience or learn from others.
  • Be willing to learn and be open-minded.

The DEI Team

The Washington DECA DEI Taskforce is a student-led team that creates initiatives so that members of all cultures, backgrounds and identities can feel empowered to excel in DECA.

The next round of applications for the Washington DECA DEI Taskforce will open May 2024. Please check this page or the @washingtondeca Instagram for updates!
